From age 9 to 18 I played the violin and in high school the upright bass in the Charleston (S.C.) Youth Symphony. Before I was formally trained, my first violin teacher was my big sister. She let me play her violin and taught me everything she knew.
Like Muse, I was inspired by the musicians around me and was fortunate that they shared their instruments and knowledge with me.

I encourage every adult who has an instrument collecting dust in a closet somewhere to share that instrument with a young person in your life. Show them what you know and encourage them to study the greats who play that instrument and remain constantly curious. That spark of creativity and inspiration could change their life for the better, and motivate them to spread joy through music…forever.
Follow the Adventures of Muse The Music Maven.
